Walk Away

CoOp Presents is incredibly proud to present the first track from a forthcoming compilation album put together by Allysha Joy. This 14-track LP gives us a solid glimpse into the current wave of Antipodean bruk / broken beat artists, with this taster coming courtesy of Silentjay and Lori.

Allysha explains "the connection began with a guest mix for CoOp Presents Worldwide FM radio show. I was asked to guest on the show, so pulled together some heavy unreleased and unmastered "Australian" broken sounds. I immediately called Horatio Luna, Close Counters and Setwun, some of my nearest and dearest inspirations and collaborators to get them in the mix!…

After linking in over the music and working on some collaborations, Alex Phountzi and IG Culture asked me to put together this compilation. The way that this music just effortlessly and lyrically fell together, is a testament to the broken beat undercurrent that runs within the jazz and dance music scene down-under. 'They're Energised' connects a scene of deeply talented and inspired musicians, collectively shaping the new wave of uniquely "Australian" bruk and broken beat music!"

I had managed to pull together a bunch of tunes for the compilation and after a studio session one afternoon I was walking down Sydney Road and bumped into Silentjay, Alien and A.KID a.k.a. ACID SLOP at their new spot, the Mandarin Dreams HQ. We were just chatting and above Silentjay's head I spotted the New Sector Movements record, 'Download This'! To see that they'd just been spinning this record felt so serendipitous, so I had to ask them to be on it! Acid Slop sent me through a tune literally the next day, and within the week we got 'Walk Away', from Lori and Silentjay…"

Silentjay and Lori are long time collaborators and creators both hailing from Narrm (Melbourne), widely acclaimed in their own right and for their vocal excellence together as backing singers in Hiatus Kaiyote.

Lori is a humble giant of the scene, performing alongside Floating Points, Gilles Peterson and FunkinEven, as well as releasing music with Theo Parrish and Remi, to name a few. Silentjay is an award winning producer, and renowned vocalist and instrumentalist. His productions for Sampa the Great's record 'The Return' as well as his duo project with Jace XL ensure his worldwide following across genres and generations. These two are a dream team!

'Walk Away' will be on all digital platforms November 11th, whilst 'They're Energised' is released the following week, November 18th 2022, on double vinyl and digital worldwide via CoOp Presents.

Allysha & the CoOp crew will also be celebrating the launch of the album at Tola in London on November 6th.
